Two Thousand And Eight

A US man was charged with stealing commercial secrets on suspicion of selling Nike's catalogue of new shoes in 2008 to Nike's competitors.

10 days ago, The Associated Press reported that the Federal Bureau of investigation arrested the man near Portland International Airport this week.

According to the survey, Reno Sal Chapin, 53 years old, got the catalogue of Nike's new shoes from his printing and binding factory.

It is one of Nike's rivals in the US, Saucony, who provides clues to the case.

Rich Woodworth, the president of Saucony, said they sent them samples of new Nike shoes and said they would sell the catalogue samples to the highest bidder.

Wood Vos said that despite fierce competition with Nike, he did not consider it a proper means of competition.

So he handed the prototype to Nike CEO Mark Parker.

The FBI then set up a bureau near the Portland airport to catch Chapin, according to the e-mailer's e-mail.

Chapin appeared in court at the Federal District Court in Portland on 8 July.

His defense lawyer Jerry Needleman said 9 days ago that Chapin was a homeless person living in a tent near Portland airport.

He believed that he was not forced by Nike and FBI to be a commercial spy, but rather forced by his livelihood.
