The footwear and leather products industry association (Assintecal) and the regional groups representing the package industry work together to protect local industries, which strengthens the interest struggle involved in "taxation of imported products for the protection of local industries".

They are seeking similar anti-dumping measures against Chinese footwear.

The motive is to protect the Brazil market from falling into the domestic market, such as those less than the billing price (mainly from Asia).

According to the information provided by Assintecal, based on data from the Ministry of industry and foreign trade development (MDIC) of Brazil, the surplus of the trade balance of leather bags was $2 million 300 thousand in 2006, which now shows a deficit of $11 million.

In 2011, the export volume of these products was US $7 million 150 thousand, but the value of the products imported into the country amounted to US $18 million 700 thousand.

What worries the industry most is not competition from leather goods and its added value or even tariffs imposed in Asia, especially in China.

Last year, plastic bags imported from China accounted for 84% of total imports (US $101 million).

In this field, Brazil exports only $857 thousand a year.

In 2006, these products imported by Brazil were ten times less than they are now.

Even in the case of imported bags made of textiles, Brazil paid $about 44200000 (76% to China) last year, while Brazil's exports in this market segment were only $5 million.

Mario Frassati, executive director of Abiacav, pointed out that, together with Assintecal, its organization will meet with trade union representatives from the industry to exert political pressure to urge the legislature to approve anti-dumping measures against the industry.

He said, "it is now beyond endurance.

We will hold this meeting to make the Company aware of the pillars of the production of leather bags in Brazil so that they can understand the consequences of importing a large number of bags.

Frassati revealed that Abiacav will present the results of these efforts in July with the aim of enabling more and more high-tech labor to support these industrial protection measures.

He added, "we want to carry out a strong lobbying. To achieve this, we need not only from the bag industry, but also from the jewelry industry's entrepreneurs and business owners.
